Shelter Advocacy

Our primary “go to” shelter, for many of our adult and senior dogs, is the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, Dog Warden Division.   Why?

• The Dog Warden Staff, working hand in glove with the Friends of Stark Pound (FOSP, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit), are laser-focused on the best interests of each and every dog within their care. From an outsider’s perspective, the number of dogs that cross their threshold is truly staggering! Despite the high volume, each dog enters a safe haven; receives routine veterinary care (Humble Creatures Veterinary Clinic)and, when medically necessary, advanced veterinary care (Stark County Humane Society); undergoes spaying/neutering procedures (AlterClinic Animal Care); benefits from socialization, exercise and enrichment programs; and experiences the love, compassion and chance that they truly deserve. Equally critical, each dog is showcased to an impressively large online potential adopter base through not only the Dog Warden Division’s website and PetFinder, but via creative photo shoots and videos that are shared on Facebook: The Dogs at the Stark County Dog Warden (44K+ Followers), FOSP (24K+ Members) and The Shelter Pet Studio (17K+ Followers). Additionally, select dogs attend local community events plus trifolds, capturing most of the dogs being housed at the shelter, are displayed to garner public interest and encourage adoption. Yet another bonus…each dog adoption, which is offered at a discounted rate, is accompanied by free training sessions with local trainers Cosmic K9 (2 sessions) and Hoperidge RTA (1 session).  

• The Dog Warden Division has been recognized by Best Friends Animal Society as a shelter that saved more than 90% of its dogs in 2024, earning the designation as a “no-kill” shelter. In fact, the division’s actual save rate was an impressive 98%!  

• Whenever we, at PupKeepers, have interacted with the Dog Warden Division and FOSP, we have encountered the most friendly, helpful, responsive, knowledgeable and dog-caring staff and volunteers that one could ever hope for when adopting a furry family member. It certainly takes a village to appropriately place the myriad of the dogs within their care and they, along with all of their incredible partners, continue to demonstrate their unwavering dedication and commitment every single hour of every single day.
